Sam came into our room this morning at about 4:30 and sounded like he couldn’t breath. I ran him into the bathroom and turned on the hot shower hoping to create some steam, but our bathroom is kinda big and it just didn’t work. We went back into the bedroom and turned on the vaporizer but Sam was getting himself worked up and it was getting worse. Everything I have read always says that if your child is having trouble breathing to take them right in. So Sam and I got in the car and headed to the ER (since the Quick Care was closed.) He still sounded bad when we saw the nurse but by the time we finally saw the doctor, three episodes of Sponge Bob later, he sounded much better. The doctor said he thought it was Croup and that kids always sounded terrible at home then fine when they come in with Croup. Sam did not have a fever which meant is wasn’t H1N1 and he said it was the first kid he had seen in a long time with Croup but without H1N1. They gave Sam some steroids to reduce the swelling in the airway and said he will have a cough for a few days. So that was our adventurous morning. He is a grouch but other than that seems fine. We have a great friend that takes him on Thursday afternoons for us so I am looking forward to a great nap!

I know exactly how scary that is. Aydin had the same kind of thing when she was about 6 mo. old. We drove like mad to the ER, and by the time we saw the nurse she sounded much better. They said the cold winter air can do that. I'm so glad he's okay!
me too! I'm glad Im not the only one that went to the Doctor in the middle of the night!
